COMMUNITY

about us

Decatur has always been a place of resilience and resourcefulness — but recently, Thinkwell Makerspace has taken that spirit to new heights. In 2024 Thinkwell opened its doors not just as a workshop, but as a home for creators, problem-solvers, and dreamers looking to make a difference.

What drives us

OUR MISSION: Thinkwell Makerspace Innovations facilitates working spaces, STEAM workshops and programs, and community outreach for an open and diverse group of learners, creatives, and tinkerers that educate and inspire our community.

OUR VISION: We envision a healthy community of makers where all are welcome to learn, create, and play.

Our Team

Meet our Board of Directors! These are the friendly faces behind the daily operations at Thinkwell. Each Board Member is a driving force behind bringing our mission to the public.

Jesse
Blunt

Executive Director

Jesse is an award winning tattoo artist and the creative mind that began conceptualizing Thinkwell Makerspace back in 2014. A Decatur native,  he took the leap from inspiring people to find their perfect ink idea, to inspiring others to find their passions in life. His endeavors toward opening Thinkwell Makerspace as a beacon of creativity and innovation for the community are inspired by his two children. He looks forward to creating a space where all are welcome to play, create, and inspire.

Sam
Johnson

President

Sam is a retired architect who met Jesse in 2019 and became inspired by his vision to create a community makerspace in Decatur.  Imagining the impact that a formal space and Maker community can bring, he joined Jesse in the effort to make it happen, and is currently the President of the board of Directors.  Sam, a world-class brass instrumentalist, can be found in his spare time jamming with his fellow band-mates, designing furnishings for the Makerspace, or enjoying long walks along our beautiful Lake Decatur.
Give him a wave if you see him!

Rachel
Emmons

Vice President

Rachel is a Data Analyst and Software Systems Developer with BLDD Architects. She dove headfirst into programming, and her love for a good ol’ fashioned spreadsheet blossomed. She describes herself as a “middle-brained geek”, bringing a mix of creativity and technical skills. Her ability to problem-solve from both her creative and logical sides make her stand out from other developers. When she’s not in front of a computer, she spends time with her daughters, plans theme parties, and makes art with her daughters.
